So I went to see my neurologist yesterday for the results of my recent MRI scan and last years chemo treatment. He showed me the scans of my brain (what an organ that is). Anyway he dissected the images of it, showing 12 lesions dotted around the grey matter. He pinpointed the live one that had led to my treatment, highlighting it was no longer the beacon it had been. He then showed me images of my spine. There is a bit of long term damage there which is primarily why I am in a wheelchair. However although I don’t expect to be running the marathon in my lifetime or getting any revolutionary treatment for that matter, his prognosis was pretty good. Accordingly most people who get diagnosed with MS have between 10-15 lesions on their brain which increase over time – some people can have over 100 resulting in various symptoms. Considering I’ve been on this coal face now for over 21 years, I thought his news was pretty good – my neurologist thought it remarkable. I’m lucky in the circumstances, many are not as fortunate as MS can be so unpredictable. So I raised a glass last night with Julie Coke and some very old buddies celebrating the power of positive thinking, lady luck and the need to always ‘Hold the Line’!
