My Dad & Mum passed this weekend 16 & 13 years respectively. He was always my inspiration teaching me to hold the line and never give in but it was my mum who gave me my soul. She missed him once he left, often saying to me she was ‘feeling blue’ without him. When she too passed a few years later I returned home later that day and wrote this poem, reading it at her funeral. I found it recently so thought I’d share it. We only ever have one mum and they are always worth lookin after.
Feeling blue
I hear the shuffle of your feet
and sense you there at my side
An ocean breeze, fresh & pure
a clovered rock, bright but so secure
You never once didn’t care
I always hoped you’d be there
The hugs and beauty, I sorely miss
your wonderful smile, your motherly kiss.
You made me laugh, you made me cry
that saving grace, was gods own eye.
The love you gave to those so small
left its legacy, that will never fall.
Your passion and spirit ,forever flowed
that zest for life, you always showed
You’ll always be my shining star
a ray of light, when things seemed far.
So goodbye my love and until we meet
my memories and dreams, forever sweet.
You steered me well, you made things good
you did for me only what my mother could.
